WLSAC Home

The weather forecast for the weekend was a bit depressing but we set off ever hopeful.

Some of us managed a dive on the way north on a calm afternoon and after fish suppers in Mallaig we headed across to Doune. The crossing was interesting, with darkness falling and a growing south westerly wind, to the extent that we cancelled our plans for a night dive at the pier and settled in its place for a few refreshments in the lodge.

Saturday 3 October

Ashore!

The wind was now the thick end of a gale with rain showers. After breakfast in the restaurant a couple of the more optimistic hung around in the hope of the weather changing while the rest headed up the hill and strolled the 6 miles to Inverie. Fortunately it stayed dry for the march but hunger and thirst forced the weary hikers into the Old Forge Inn for sustenance. Meanwhile the ever-hopefuls got ready for the off only to have their hopes dashed (or blown away) when our redoubtable skipper abandoned the plans to move the Mary Doune round to Inverie. So up the hill we went and into the mini-bus for the run to the Old Forge to pick up the weary walkers.

Dinner as usual in the restaurant was the superb meal we have come to expect, prepared and served with speed and great style.

Sunday 4 October

What a change!

Flat calm sea and sun. We headed across to Hyskeir - in October - for a couple of terrific dives on the east coast and the cave with lunch taken ashore while we explored the lighthouse and rock.
