We flew from Edinburgh to Gatwick and on to Sharm el Sheik in Egypt on another shore based trip booked through Oonasdivers. The flight was by Xcel Air and was reasonable comfortable for a charter. We arrived on time and transferred to our hotel, the comfortable Sonesta Beach where we have stayed before. It is very next to the Oonas Dive Centre where our bus collected us each morning for the 20 minute journey to Na'ama Bay or Old Sharm to pick up the boat. Our boat was the KKK on Day 1 and the NNNN for the rest of the trip.

We dived locally on the first two days - a new rule to us this one, and while the diving on the second day was OK at Ras Nasrani it would have been better to have been able to go further afield. On the third day we were down at Ras Mohammed and Marsa Brekker. Day 4 was spent up at the Straits of Tiran and the last two days we went back down to Ras and Marsa B.

Below are some of the wildlife seen during the diving and photographed by Jim Anderson, Lesley Anderson, Gordon Young, Colin McDonald and James Anthony.

The Dive Team

Colin and Fiona McDonald, Jim and Lesley Anderson, Gordon and Jenny Young, James Anthony and Ian Seath. Betty Anthony was in command of snorkeling and swimming activities while the divers were below.

Our excellent, tolerant and long suffering dive guide Johan, seen here without his wee dog (or his brother who entertained us one evening in the Tavern Bar, Sharm).

The Boat Crew

On the left is our Skipper, Salem, always accurate at the drop and timely on the pick-up. On the right is Saeed, the Cook and general factotum about the boat. Justifiably the best cook in the N. Red Sea. The food was always plentiful, varied and tasty and he was always there with a helping hand when we were kitting up, handling cameras and climbing back aboard after the dive.
